Hi. My 08 just hit 170K runs like a champ. I’ve noticed over the past 2 weeks
a quarter size oil spot below where the engine and transmission connect.
Are these seals known for going out? Is there anything else I can check to
rule out the rear main seal? Is it worth buying any oil additives? Any
suggestions? Truck is not using oil and it takes 5w-30.
Thanks!

David,
1st make sure where the Leak is comeing from.
I had a Leak on The '93 hardbody that I had until I bought
the 2013 Frontier. I thought it was an oil leak coming
from the engine. That motor also had about 172K Mile's on
it @ about 19 year's.
I crawled under the truck and Continued to Wipe and Follow
the Leak upward's. It looked like an Oil Spot on the
Garage Floor. I eventually Followed the Leak to the
underside of the Waterpump and useing my shop mirror saw
that the Water pump had a Very Very Small Drip Leak.
I must have crawled under that truck 22 time's before I
finally found the leak. I got nissan to put the water
pump on and the Mechanic said he didn't know how I found
that leak.
If you confirm that it is indeed leaking Where the
Transmission is mounted to the Engine, they can separate
the Transmission and Replace the Seal.
1st Wipe The Drip Trail with a Rag and Follow the Leak to
make sure where it is coming from is my advice.
I've got oil leak's on my tractor. They are not leaking
bad enough to warrant a Repair Though. If it was parked
on a Dirt Floor I would never know it. I just put Pan's
underneath to catch the Drip's. A Few month's ago I also
had a Coolant Leak on the Tractor and never could track it
to the Water Pump, but I figured the water pump was
leaking somewhere that I couldn't see. I put a new water
pump on it and So Far no more Coolant Leak's.
Let us know how it goes.
