I have a 2010 Nissan Frontier LE 4WD, 4.0L V6 with a very
strange ABS/SLIP/VDC issue.
When making certain turns:
SLIP light flashes → truck develops a
grinding/dragging/pulling sensation.
Then:
VDC OFF illuminates → grinding/dragging immediately
stops.
So there are two repeatable conditions:
A: SLIP flashing + grinding
B: VDC OFF + no grinding
A right-rear wheel bearing was replaced after a growling
noise was found in that area. A later mechanic also found
play/looseness in the right-rear wheel, despite the
bearing having been replaced.
Another shop, BC Automotive, believes one of the FRONT
wheel bearings may be involved.
There have also been issues with the right-rear ABS
sensor/collar/retaining hardware, and ABS/VDC codes
include C1105, C1101, C1143 and C1110.
I'm trying very hard not to just throw parts at it.
If this came into your shop, what would you check first?
Would you try to reproduce the SLIP/grinding event while
monitoring live wheel-speed data from all four wheels,
and compare the data during the SLIP/grinding condition
versus the VDC-OFF/no-grinding condition?
I'm particularly interested in whether this sounds more
like:
a wheel-speed signal problem,
front wheel bearing,
right-rear mechanical play,
ABS sensor/rotor or wiring issue,
ABS/VDC module,
or potentially more than one problem.
I'd really appreciate the thoughts of anyone who has
diagnosed the Nissan VDC/ABS system on these Frontiers.

I have not diagnosed the Nissan VDC/ABS System, and I'm Not
A Professional Mechanic.
My Advice is Not To Throw Part's @ It In Hope's That by some
Miracle it will Fix The Problem.
First thing I would do Is check the Fluid Level's In Your 4wd
Reservoir's, Especially the Rear Axle Reservoir To make sure
everything has Oil.
If You are going to try and diagnose this yourself,, Then
Download a Copy of the Genuine Nissan Service Manual and
Go Through the Diagnostics Trouble Shooting Procedure's. If
You are Not Able to do this; Then My Advice is to take it to
Nissan and Talk with the Service Manager about your problem
and Get The Best Mechanic that They Have To Try and Figure
Out What Your Problem is.
Your Truck is now 16 Year's Old,, So Expect to Spend Some
Money to Get This Fixed Right. How Much Money? It Might be
a Lot or It Might Not Be That Much, But That's The Way It Goe's
When Your Truck is 16 year's old With Grinding Growling
Noise's.
I Suspect That @ Some Point There Was a Leak and The Oil in
One Of The Reservoir's Got Too Low, Which Resulted in No
Lube Situation. It's just a Guess though.

Truck to be able to help you.
I get a Whole Lot of Help from AI on A Whole Lot of Different
Subject's. To Tell You The Truth, I get more help from AI than
on the Forum's. Give AI a Try Sometimes, You Might Get Some
Good Advice; Just Remember That AI is Not Perfect, so You
Have To Use Good Common Sense.
