Do a search for Amsoil. 5w-30 full synthetic, good for 1yr/15K miles under severe conditions or 1yr/25K miles under normal conditions. You can use the Amsoil filter for the duration or another brand changed every 3K. I've been using it for 2 yrs now in my 08, great cold starting and very consistent mileage regardless of temp.

I just switched to amsoil in my 06 Frontier as Frontierguy suggested and seems to run smoother and I noticed a slight increase in MPG's. I like amsoil as I have been using it in my motorcycle.

How many miles should you have on an engine before you switch to synthetic oil?

I switched at the first oil change, 3K miles.

Remeber, a lot of vehicles come with syn from the factory.  Corvette, Porsche, Mercedes, Viper, etc all have syn as a factory fill.  Rings are now different than they used to be and seating them isn't the issue it used to be.  I changed my 2007 Fronty over to Mobil 1 at about 1100 miles.  At 27,000 it can run 400+ ,iles and the oil is still at the full line on the dipstick.

I also think that the VQ engines like a tad thicker oil so don't try running a 5W-20 or 0W-20 oil in it.

Hey Boomer, I hope you meant 4000 + miles. Have you checked out Amsoil, you can run that 1 yr/15000 miles under severe conditions or 1yr/25000 under normal conditions and the price is $8.75 qt. Less if you become a member.

Frontierguy, Yes, I meant 4000!  My typing is not the best.  I use Mobil 1 5W-30 EP and change it at about 4-5000 miles because it is still under warranty.  After warranty, I'll go 8-10,000 miles.  I also use a NAPA Gold or Pure One filter.  I cut open a Chinese made OEM Nissan filter and did not like the construction.  I also get less start up noise with the non-OEM filters. With the PureOne in particular my oil looks like a dark honey color at 5000 miles!  Amazing to me.

Have you ever gone to Bobistheoilguy.com and read the forums on oil.  Lots of retired oil chemists on there and they do like Amsoil!

Boomer,
I have quit using the China made oil filters also, using the Purolater pure one. The guy I get my Amsoil from tells me that dark oil is not a bad thing, it means the oil is doing its job cleaning and holding the particles in suspension.
