Hi all. I purchased a 2002 nissan frontier recently and i have a question. The airbags were blown in it when i bought the truck but since then i have replaced them. The only thing i need now are the seat belt tensioners. I have looked online and i have had a lot of trouble finding any such thing let alone for a 2002. It seems like this is a hard year to buy parts for! it took me a month to find airbags. Anyways I guess i want to know if anyone here knows of a place that i can purchase tensioners or possibly a new seat belt assembly for the front seats of a nissan frontier with a grey interior. Also unrelated i was wondering if anyone had any tips for improving fuel mileage, i only get about 18 mpg highway with no a/c...if that. For a small truck this doesn't seem very good. Any air filters or anything that anyone can recomend to improve mpg?

For the seat belts

As for fuel mileage, there's a sticky in the performance section.  If you do a lot of highway driving, i'd look at a bed cover.  I noticed a 5 mpg increase on my frontier when I installed mine.

I had the 2.4L 2wd auto.  if you have something different don't expect anything major.  Plus my truck was only 6 months old when I added it.  Over a couple of years it slowly went back down.

I'd do a tune up (spark plugs, wires) get a exhaust upgrade, the debate over intakes seems to be on right now (i prefer AEM though, though some are just sticking to stock) and keep your foot out of the floor.  LOL

Ideas have been tested on the powerblock series.  Some decent gaines were noted for swapping differential oil, transmission fluid, etc for newer synthetics.  But most of these have been on slightly older model vehicles.  I don't know if Royal Purple gear lube would give any benefits on our newer vehicles.

it had all of its plugs and wires replaced right before i got it, so i don't think it needs a tune up, it has a brand new fuel system due to malfunction..luckily it was a recall and nissan fixed it for free! since it is a 4wd automatic so the bed cover wont make much difference? i use castrol 5w-30, not sure if that is synthetic? i drive 60-65 no faster unless im on the interstate which doesn't happen often. when you say exhaust upgrade, what do you mean? is there any certain air pressure i need to keep my tires at? i read something about that. thanks! The bed cover will help out, especially since you drive 60-65.  You could probably expect around a 3-4 mpg increase.  The added weight of the 4wd kind of kills which is why you see 18 right now.  Plus the cover will give you some security to store stuff.

Tire inflation is very important, just go by what Nissan recommends for your truck.  There should be sticker in the driver's door jam.  Make sure to check it cold, ie before you drive the truck around.

As for the exhaust, at the very least a smaller muffler to help free up some flow.  You don't have to get a overly loud exhaust.  Just find something you like the sound of.  Youtube is a great way for this.  The idea on this is the smaller the muffler, the louder the exhaust.  So the larger the muffler, the quieter the exhaust.  The stock muffler is very restrictive though, so just about any aftermarket will give you a very small gain.  HOWEVER, one big concern is if your state does vehicle inspections (you only list US).  I know people use aftermarket exhausts in strict states like NY and Cali, but I know some areas of those states are stricter than others.  I'd hate to see you fork out a little bit of money for a newer muffler only to have the state fail it (if it applies to you)

Proper tire inflation and a bed cover are your best bets to increasing your mileage.  The other items will just add on a little bit more but won't show the gains as much as those.

Yeah i live in Missouri, i know that straight pipes are not allowed but i don't know about anything else, we have stingy exhaust rules here haha. I don't really know where to check for that but i think i like the idea of the bed cover anyway just for storage reasons :p also it would keep the rain out haha, i usually have a little lake in my bed after a storm hahaha. thanks for all of your suggestions! i will try and find a reasonable bed cover when i get some extra cash :)

Missouri... an aftermarket muffler is no problem there.  I have a uncle who lives near Rolla and I heard nothing but flowmasters and magnaflows the entire time I was there visiting... LOL.

My suggestion on the bed cover is something that folds, or rolls up but it s a hard top.  soft tops require changing the snap posistions around for summer and winter and don't offer any security.  1 piece hard tops are nice looking, but if you go to haul something large like a fridge or washing machines you have to remove it completely off the bed.  Pace edwards offer their roll up hard tops, but the one I had required constant maintenance.  BAKFLIP offers a 3 piece hard top that folds up out of the way.  Just food for thought.
