2001 nissan frontier 4x4 crewcab auto 6 cyl in good condition. Have been having problem with trying to start truck when warm. I turn key, and get a click, several times it just clicks and the number of clicks are getting more frequent over the past 2 week. Battery new and plenty of power, after several trys of turning key and getting clicks, the starter finally turns the engine over. Starter seems to have no problem or drag. Everything seems ok except for not always starting on first try, sometimes it does start with one turn of key , sometimes no.

With all my years of working on my cars, since I was a teenager, I seem to remember having this problem before, and it seemed to be the starter solenoid and starter needing to be replaced, so, I think it will have to be replaced, I think I can do it myself, from past experience, just 2 bolts and wires, I have the after market manual with pictures and sockets/wrenches.

Please give me all of your thoughts on this as I could use some good advice here. Do you all think it is easy enough for me to replace at 60 years old, or should I try to scrape up the money and have it done at the shop?

Thanks to all of you for your responses to  my previous posts.

Don s, when you speak of ground wires, are you referring to just the wire on the starter itself, or other ground wires, please specify and I wlll clean any and all wires that you indicate that I should clean.

QUESTION: Does the starter have a ground wire feeds directly off the the positive negative/positive side of the battery ? These wires tend to get corroded more easily these days. Please specify and respond,

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Any and all wires that connect the engine and/or running gear to the body and frame. Look all over the truck for them... top and bottom. Most ground wires do not have plug in connectors. Ground wires vary year to year and model to model. Take the time... It may save you some money!!!

Don't make me come over there to find them...

Good Luck.. Don S..

There should be a ground on the pass side cyl head toward
the front and I believe one on one of the starter bolts???
Take a real good look at the starter location, they are a
b'''' to get out even if you have a lift to work on.
