2001 Nissan frontier crewcab 6 cyl, engine in good condition. I turn igniton key to start and get a click, I must do this several times before the starter finally engages.

This sounds like the starter solenoid. Today is Tues the 8th of may, I must keep it going until Sat 12th to have it replaced at the shop.

Do any of you have any helpful Ideas on how I can ensure a start, total of 6 times per day, until Sat. Someone suggested tapping on it with a stick. or some such thing.

I looked under the hood and couldnt even see it without a flashlight.

All helpful comments and ideas appreciated

Tapping on it is a good idea, but you need 2 people, 1 to
tap while the other is holding the ignition in the start
position. check all your connections also, battery, engine
grounds, etc.

Tommorow morning I wil have the stater replaced. It did the clicking thing each time I turned the key all the way to start, and it took two or sometimes 3 trys before it would finally engage. This went on from Sat to Tues Afternoon, thene stopped and now it is Sat again, All the wires check good, the battery tests good, the connection checks out good at the starter, and according to the after market tech book, this truck has no replay, just a straight run from the igniton switch to the starter. The best I can figure is that the starter is having its last wind before it dies all together. After all, it is 10 years old now, and has been started on an average of 5 to ten times a day, almost every day during its life span.

I hate to spend money to find out its not the starter, Im on a very limted budget, but I do not see anything else that it could be that is doing this. The truck runs very fine and you could literally eat off the engine, its clean, real clean.

If anyone has any more ideas, please post now before I have it replaced tomrrow. It wont hurt to replace it anyway. Its my work truck, and only vehicle. and I am a merchanser traveling each day from store to store and without the truck I am out of a job.

Any further comments appreciated.

Mike
