Hello. I'm new to the forum, and am shopping for a Frontier tomorrow. I'm in the market for a crew cab truck, and am struggling with the decision to go 4x2 or 4X4. I live in Northeast Ohio, and am unsure if the 4X2 will be sufficient in the event of snow. We live well south of Cleveland, and don't get nearly the amount of snow that they do. Any perspective would be appreciated, especially when weighing the trade-off of price and mpg's. Thanks for any advice you could offer.

..

A 4x2 with a limited slip rear end (LSD) might work for you but it is a 4x4 for me... I wouldn't leave home without it! Remember a two wheel drive is a one spinning wheel drive with zero traction on ice and not much better on snow.

Have a good one.. Don S..

The tires and weight you put in the bed will make a
difference. I drove around South Dakota for 3 years with
a 2wd frontier and only got stuck once (in a parking spot
of all places). If you're used to driving with a rwd on
snow and ice, then make sure you got a good set of tires,
throw some weight into the bed, and take it slow.

The biggest problem I've always seen is that people think
4wd will let them do everything quicker on snow and ice,
like stopping. The biggest question you have to ask
yourself is how badly will you need to get somewhere, say
like work? If there is a blizzard and snow is dumping,
do you still have to make it to work, or is it shutting
down? If it's yes, get a 4wd. If not then get a 2wd and
just sit at home when that snow is coming down crazy.
