Hi,
2012 SV 4x4 v6

A few days ago my tailgate opened as I was turning out of a lot onto the road. For one the tailgate has to be closed with a good bang to get it to latch correctly.
Anyway a few days later i notice the bottom right corner of the tailgate was bent outward and paint was gone on the corner. Thought " what the hell!!"
Took it to the body shop and he said it was not hit inward but the corner was pulled out.
after looking at it more closely when the tailgate is almost completely open the lower corner of the tailgate passes right over the lower hinge screw, the one thats mounted on the body not the tailgate, with about 1/32" clearance. The left side doesn't even come close. with a little push on the tailgate to the right I can get it to touch the screw.
Any one else have this issue?

Take it back to the dealer and make sure they correct the
issue for you. Have seen some Titan t/g issues, but none on
the Frontier.

Took the truck to the dealer. Make a long story short.

We took another tailgate from a Frontier that was on the lot put it on my truck and it cleared the screws. After looking at it more closely the tailgate skin was poorly wrapped in that corner. Anyway I was lucky , there was a Night Armor SV on the lot. helped the guy swap the locks and away i went with a new tailgate

Now that's some customer service. I know they'll just get
it covered and a new tailgate. But I've been to a few
dealers where if I suggested that, you'd have thought I
asked for their first born.

That eexactly what the service rep said when i told him. " I didn't expect to be swapping tailgates." He said it's customer service. Needless to say I was happy as can be with it.

My 2012 did the same thing. I had to get the body shop to repair it $$$
because Nissan abandoned mr on this. The hinge part is different than
the original part from the factory (it is angled differently by about 30
degrees) suggesting a design flaw. Nissan has NOT been helpful.
Jaremko in Spokane, Wa was also not helpful. I brought it in 4 times,
and they NEVER called me back as they promised they would. I will
never buy a car from them or Nissan.
