Hi I was wondering if anyone has had to change the lock on
a 2006 frontier king cab or "like" model? The lock is
really loose and pushs in and pulls back out when the key
is in it and will not pop the lock open.Im trying to find
out if 1.is that generally a dealer item if I need a new
one. 2.Is it easy to fix by myself what might all be
involved?Thanks in advance.

It sounds like the spring clip is broke or missing. You
will need to remove the inner panel to see what is going
on. Haven't seen a lot of failures in that department.

Thanks Frontierguy,Seems to be my luck that the unusual
problems happen to me.I can't even seem to Google tail gate
lock assembly. Results show me ignition lock.Do you know if
the dealers sell the parts.... lock assembly, spring clip
and even the tailgate handle all separately, or is it all
sold as a set?

Should be able to get separate pieces. I would take the
cover off and see what is going on first, maybe something
just loosened up.

Thank you again,I took it apart this afternoon turned out
it was a loose bolt that holds the lock mechanism and that
being loose the part that goes into the swing adjuster came
out.(sorry i'm sure those are not the correct terms
lol).Took me all of 20 minutes to take the tailgate
apart, fix the mechanism and put the tailgate back
together.Just glad it was easy enough that I didn't have to
take it to the dealer.
