I'm just about to remove my factory stereo and replace it with a Pioneer aftermarket one. The main reason I'm doing this, is to get an auxiliary input jack.
I'd like to run the aux/ipod wiring from behind the new head unit, to the front console (the big storage bin between the passenger and driver seats). I'll probably have to drill a hole in the bottom of the bin for the wires. That way, I can leave my MP3 player in the front console, and there will be no wires showing.
Has anyone done this before? Any tips on fishing the wiring under where the gearshift is?
It's a 2004 Frontier, by the way.
Thanks,
Antun

I'd love to see pics when you've finished and any input you have about how things went (good or bad). I just picked up my 08 last week and am looking to do something similar. Which Pioneer did you decide on? I didn't see a double Din head unit from them. I was looking at a JVC or Kenwood.

I'll take some photos when it's done.
Here's the unit I got. It's not a double-din, but they send you an adapter, so you end up with a shelf below your stereo:
Looks like it's discontinued now, but it was available for $170 up until a few days ago.
Take care,
Antun

This turned out to be a really easy install. The old stereo comes out easily with around 6 screws. To remove it, you need to remove one or two of the panels in the center console. Once you've done that, it's easy to access the 4-6 screws to loosen the front console (between the seats) enough to fish an auxiliary input wire to the box that's mounted in the front console.
I had to drill a fairly large hole to get the ipod adapter through. The hole is pretty messy. I'm planning to cut a thick sheet of rubber to size, and cut a slit in it to cover the hole.
I don't have any photos yet, but will post them when it's all done.
