I think that some lubricant brands have reached "cult status" but I really think it is primarily marketing crap. In 1989 I purchased a 1986 Toyota Tercel Station Wagon Deluxe with 40.000 miles on it for 4000 dollars. I changed the oil, transmission fluid and filters with Wal-Mart brand stuff on a somewhat regular basis.

In 2006. with 325.000 miles on it I gave the car to a needy family and it ran like the day I got it.

Since then I only use the Wal-Mart brand stuff. Lucas, Amisol, Royal Purple not in my car.

Invest your money in something else.

I to had a little tercel and ran auto parts store brand and sold it to someone and that car still runs great to this date. I do beleave thst there are certin fluids like you posted are a waste of money. When it comes to auto trans fluid I will pay the extra like this Nissan fluid for nissan transmission, mopar fluid for an A-518,A-500 transmission

I do agree as well. Besides if you think about it the basid fluids are so much better today then they were 10-15 years ago. I had a 94 pathfinder had 160,000 miles on it and I never used oil, and only used 5W-30.
I do feel you need to be careful about the ATF, there are so many kinds out there from Type F, Mercon, Dextron, SPII, Fordomatic and Nissan Jmatic.
I did find out that some of them are the same thing under a different name.
