I heard that Nissan will have a diesel version of both the Titan and Maxima in 2009. Maybe the Frontier too? Since The Frontier's engine is just a bored out version of the maxima's

Food for thought…

From my semi-limited knowledge a barrel of crude oil is limited percentage wise of items such as diesel fuel  that can be refined out of it. Diesel fuel already costs more than gasoline and increased demand should raise the price even more.

... Bio-products will not be able to add an appreciable amount to the supply. If diesel fuel cost is a third more than gasoline then you have to get a third more MPG to be cost effective and remember the engines cost more to produce but may last longer.

With the higher cost of diesel fuel and the premium you pay for a diesel engine, usually several thousand dollrs, it will take forever to pay off the increased efficiency of the diesel engine.  Maybe never.  Also consider that with the new lower sulfur diesel fuel and the required emission control, diesel engines are now supposed to have significantly shorter lifetimes, comparable to that of a gasoline engine.

Unless I needed the torque for hauling or towing, I would stick with gasoline.

Where did you hear that they decrease engine life?

While it is true that the latest generation of High Performance Diesels in Europe are geared for vehicle use (= non truck use) they still last forever - irregarding of emissions control systems.

The way it emissions are achieved has nothing to do with internals of the engine. BluTec i.e. injects at the exhaust - and thus has zero effect on the engine life.

I hear they are giving the Frontier a V8 option just like the Pathfinder. I also have heard the dealer talking about the Titan getting a Diesel and a Dually option between 2010 and 2014.
