not trying to beat a dead horse.....have a serious question

2 years and 39k miles. have played with the trip computer and calc'ed mileage as well.

typically @ 60-65 21-22 mpg.....

@70-75   its 19-20mpg

@80 on cruise its 18-19 (live outside atlanta- bumper to bumper at 75-80mph - its not just a commute, its an adventure)

overall has been about 17mpg and i can live with that.... love my truck and i use it as a truck

however about 3 weeks ago my mileage dropped like a stone, to 15-16 on cruise at 65mph. had recent oil change , using same gas from same stations, same driving habits.

saw some where a dirty fuel injector can cause big drop in mpg..... b4 i drop $ needlessly, thought i'd ask......

have 39k miles on it now. anyone else have this happen?

..

obiwan;

... Your Gas station may have just switched to 10% Ethanol fuel, A piece of carbon may have fouled a plug or fuel injector or sensors. Look at your air cleaner element. Good stating points anyway...

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

Try running some Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner through the system.  Add it to your gas, fill the tank and then let the tank run down to about 1/4.  That should tidy up the injectos.  Also, check your tire pressure!!  This can have a big effect if even one tire is significantly low.

thanks for the input. will try the fuel inj cleaner.

i just replaced the stock tires. i had worn down the originals to almost nothing. thought the drop in mpg was due to worn out tires. put on new tires, but no change. also going to try the mobile 1.

thanx for the input.

I've had my mileage fall off 4 mpg by switching tires (increased rolling resistance) on an Acura TSX I used to own.  The 'harder' higher mileage tires gave me better fuel economy at the expense of road noise.

THANX AGAIN FOR THE INPUT. TRIED THE LUCAS FUEL INJ CLEANER (AND UPPER END LUBRICANT?) SEEMS TO HAVE DONE THE TRICK. AFTER 2 DAYS MILEAGE IS UP TO 21 AT 65MPH OR SO....

I WATCH MY TIRE PRESSURE AND KEEP THEM A LITTLE ON THE HIGH SIDE. I AM GOING TO TRY MOILE 1 OIL CHANGE THIS WEEKEND, AND SEE WHAT IS THE BEST MPG I CAN GET.

ANYONE HAVE ANY NOTICEABLE IMPROVEMENT WITH COLD AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS ?  HAVE FOUND SEVERAL THAT ALL SEEM TO BE $150+.....

NOT SURE IF 1-2 MPG IS WORTH IT....

footnote....

i recall reading some in here about some one tired of $100 oil changes to use mobil one.

i am not by any means plugging wallymart, but they will do a mobile 1 change for $47. you do have to ask for, and pay extra for, the mobile 1 filter....another 10 i believe....

i priced the mobile 1 + filter at auto zone for $39. for $20 more i will be more than happy to let some one else make a mess.....
