I have a 2006 Frontier XE with the 2.5 4-banger, stick shift with about 35,000 miles on it. On most mornings recently there is a loud squeal under the hood. Stays the same at low and high rpm and with A/C either On or Off. Tried W-D 40 in idler bearing area but no change (I think it's a sealed bearing anyway). Usually disappears after driving a mile or 2. Opened hood and sound is coming from near either the idler pulley or the A/C pulley (both on driver's side near each other). Can't really tell. Anyone else run into this? Any suggestions on how to pin point?

Could be the belt itself.  APlly a few dabs of SILICONE dielectric greaseon the ribbed side of the belt only (none on the smooth side).  See if this helps.  It is an old trick to stop troublesome belt noises.  DO NOT use petroleum based grease as this can swell the rubber in the belt.

This is a common problem on this engine and is caused by the serpentine belt tensioner. There's a TSB on it available at this link : http://www.nissanhelp.com/Models/2006/Frontier%20King%20Cab/ Description.htm click on "Bulletins" and be careful to pick the right download as you only have two chances each time you log on. Take it to the dealer for repair under warranty. My '07 XE did it when I first bought it, but after a couple thousand miles it stopped.

Same thing with the I4. That's what mine is and it did the exact same thing.
