Hi, I have a 98 nissan frontier with 66.000 miles. I notice about 3 weeks ago my temp  gauge was pointing above the H. I turned the heater on full and after a few mins it went back to normal. I drove the truck another week and the gauge would jump to the hot then back to normal. I thought the thermastat was sticking so I had it replaced. Since having the thermastat replaced after the truck is started for only a few mins the gauge goes directly to hot and stays there. The radiator is full with anti-freeze-water the water pump does not leak and the fan is  running.Any idea what could be wrong that I can check before I have to take it to a garage. Thanks In advance

A. Is it a quality Nissan stat?

B . Possibly it is mounted upside down.

C. Might still be air in the system.

D. Water pump inpellers eroded.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

Same thing happens to my 2001 Nissan Frontier with 160,000 miles. The temp goes way up but never overheats. I had the thermo replaced too and didnt make a difference. WTF?

Hey, Just in case anyone has this problem in the future this is how I fixed mine. Take off the radiator cap and start your engine. Let the engine run for 15 mins then turn your heater on full. Sometimes there are air pockets in the engine and this is a way to get rid of them. hope this helps
