I took my 2008 frontier back to my dealer when my vehicle was 7 months old with a paint issue, they refused to fix it, said that it was 'environmental' there's 20 year old chevys, 10 year old toyotas, etc. on my road wih no apparent paint issues. I've owned a number of cars and lived in this area all of my life and never had a problem. I wash my vehicles on a regular basis(probably too much, or too little according to them) I opened a case with Nissan No. America, that went nowhere, opened a case with the BBB, I think someone was paid off there, they said it wasn't a safety issue or not serious enough to warrant a judgement in my favor. My vehicle is now 18 months old, has 17000 miles on it and the paint is down to bare metal in spots with rust coming thru. I did contact a lemon law attorney who just said that if that was the BBB's decision, he can't do anything. I will never, ever buy a nissan again, I show friends/coworkers/strangers, and anyone else who will listen my vehicle and they are in disbelief as I am that they refuse cover it.I bough tthis in the CNY area at Bill Rapp Superstore, Even the owner,Bruce Rapp stated that it was some sort of design flaw. All's I have left to do is spread the word about this dealer, and Nissan in general. Anyone else having a similiar/same problem(particularly in this area) please reply, I can send pics, maybe strength in numbers will help with another lemon law attorney or something...?

What part of the vehicle is having the issue? In front of the rear tire opening? Seen lots of stone chip issues(mine included with only 10,000 miles), have sent them over to the local body shop for repaint and stone guard application. I have not had mine done yet, just noticed it a few weeks ago during its spring polish job.

yes that is correct, in front of the rear wheel wells, and along the bottom of the rear doors, both sides. I recently got a quote for $2000. I have to pay $2000 to fix my new truck, does that seem absurd to anyone else?

You mention Lemon Law, this only applies if you take a vehicle in for repair, and it is not done correctly after 3 attempts, you are entitled to return the vehicle under the Lemon Law. In your case no attempt has been made to correct the problem. I would check with another Nissan dealer for an opinion. Like I mentioned at my dealership we have sent trucks to the body shop for the same concern., mine will be one of them soon.

I guess that's my next course of action, to try another dealer, are they covering your truck under warranty?

I am having the same problem right now.  Except my dealer told me that nissan was aware of this stone chipping problem on the rear fender just behind the passenger door, and they went ahead and told me they would put this clearcoat on with no charge to me.  Well now I was washing my truck also and found that on the very front tip of my fender there was no paint and it was down to bare metal and starting to rust.  So I took it back to a dealership and they are telling me that there not resposible for this problem and will not fix it unless I wanted to pay to have it done.  I have called customer care people at nissan and there checking into it, but I feel as though they are going to stand behind there truck either.

I'm having issues with the clear coat myself. Granted I live where it is hot but that should be no reason due to the fact that other cars are fine. This could be a defect in the painting procedure just like GM had a while back. Those vehicle owners also had power in numbers. It the revolution! unite! paint jobs for everyone!

I would recommend calling nissan customer care, you'll soon find out that they really don't care but for the sake of having a paper trail for a lawyer to go on I would do it, document everything! Don't bother with the BBB, go straight to a lemon law attorney.

I ended up having my truck painted in the defective area, clearcoated, and they put a wider/longer band of that clear tape over these areas.

The body shop that did the work for me could not believe that the dealer I bought it from, or Nissan refused to fix it, it's under warranty for God's sake!

Good luck!
