Hey guys,
I took the truck to a local exhaust shop.. little 1 man shop..

He pulled the SES code - P0420 - yeah, we all know it's a problem with the exhaust.

I've got an 03 frontier non-SC 3.3 5sp manual 4x4 King cab.

He said when he looked up the info on the truck, it's California emissions, and requires a special cat.

He said dealer would quote 1200-1500$ for a new one, but he could get a "refurb" for ~650 installed.

My question is, is this a legitimate price, and would it be worth it to bend over and let the dealership stick it in all the way?

I've got 108k on the truck, and it's been running a little sluggish (esp in 4wd) for the last 18k miles.. and my gas mileage has yet to beat 18mpg.
Now, granted, I do have those 30x9.5x15 Big O XT's, but I should still be averaging 18-20, right?

Thanks guys!

I would check with your dealer. The cats are warranted for 8 yrs/ 80,000 miles, maybe they could do a "goodwill" claim for you. Worth a try.

I would, but with as much mudding as I've done, my whole engine bay is brown :P and pressure washing and degreaser won't clean that mud out... I'd have to wipe it all down piece by piece...

I would still check with your dealer as far as prices go, and as far as the mud , who cares?? We have trucks come in all the time from dirt road use, especially the rural mail carriers!! How do they know what you have been doing with it?
