Hey everyone.

I just picked up a 2003 V6 4wd crew cab with 80,000 miles.  I'm pretty sure everything's OK, but I thought I'd run it by the forum anyway ...

It seems overly bumpy going down the road.  There's no play in the steering and the shocks are fine - no bounce at all when I put a knee on the bumper, just down and slowly comes back up like it should.  I used it to take a load of cedar branches (probably less than 150lbs.) to the dump the other day and hoped that the extra weight in the back would ease the bumpiness, but it didn't really seem to help.

Like I said, I assume it's normal, just stiff suspension, but I was hoping to hear others say the same thing.  It's been about 10 years since I had a 4x4 pickup and can't remember if it rode that way or not (it was a 91 Nissan 4x4).

Thanks,

Dan

I own a 02 Frontier XE 4x4 and noticed that the suspension is quite stiff.  You can basically feel every pebble and bump but I think this is far better than how the Silverado rides.  That truck just floats around, the frontier feels nice, stiff and agile which makes a marked difference when cornering at high speeds and what not.  I personally think the truck handles fantastic.  I also drove my friends 03 Frontier SC 4x4 and his rides similar.  Drive a floating truck and you will learn to like the Frontier.

..

At 46,000 miles I put Monroe Sens-atracks on the rear Of My '99 Frontier 4x4. It handled the bumps a lot better. They didn't make Sens-atracks for the front so I used another type of Monroe shock on the front. The new front shocks were not as good as the the old factory Nissan shocks I took off!!!

I had used Monroe Sens-atracks on all 4 corners of my '95 4x4 Hard Body and they were Very good.

BTW... My '99 4x4 Frontier rode a heck of a lot better than the '99 4x4 Toyota I was trying out.

Thanks for the replies.  I was hoping others would say that they've experienced similar handling.  Now I can set my mind at ease.

Thanks again!
