my '02 crew cab tachs 2500 rpms cruising between 60-65 mph. it feels like it's running alot harder than it should be for the speed. it's all stock and i recently changed spark plugs and wires. been this way for the month that i've had it. could it be because of the gears in the rear end? i am almost positive they're stock. how could i find out what gears it has?

thanks in advance for any help

My '02 CC Auto 2WD runs at about 2700 between 65-70. I've had it since it was new and its always run that way as far as I can remember. 3.3L 170 hp is relatively small for a 4300 lb truck, so it works a little harder than the new 4.0L Frontys.

Dude, I feel your pain. When my father first bought the truck, the moment he took it off the lot, he almost turned back. I'll never forget what he said that night:

"Oye, esto esta haciendo muchas revoluciones"

Or:

"Hey, This is revving very high..."

As someone said above..The motor is tiny, they had to make the motor cruise at it's fat power range...Even then, it's not that powerful...

I can run at 70mph turning 2k RPM's on my 07. I think Nissan used a lower final drive gear so the smaller engine could use more of it's pawer band. A taller electric O/D would help.

Yes I have to agree, I had a 94 pathfinder V6 4X4 5 speed and at 62 MPH, it was 3000 RPM!!!! I even checked my odometer to ensure it was accurate, and it was.

Man was it a screamer, and also lacking on power.

Now my 08 frontier V6 4X4 with AT (5 speed) is 2000 RPM at 65 MPH. I get slightly better MPG (almost 20 mpg) and it has more power, is about 5 feet longer and also heavier. I have never put my frontier over 2700 RPM's, there is no need for it. I do some mountain passes and climbs and the VQ engine has so much low end torque.

hey i have the same problem. i have an 04 frontier crew cab
5 speed manual 3.3L V6 and i top out 3000 rpm's at like 70.

if its true that the horsepower is my problem is there any
way to boost it without shelling out 4K-6K for a turbo?
