Hello all,

This is my first post on here so hopefully it's worthy! haha.

I started having issues with my 98 Frontier, 4cyl 4x4, it would very
intermittently lost power. Be driving along then all of a sudden you
would have no power at all with the gas, or another time it sounded like a
bad spark plug and there was black smoke coming out the tail...(checked
plugs...they are fine). It stalled out a few times. No CEL was on. I
brought it into a shop and they managed to mimic the problem, then
they said they pulled codes and it was P0100...which is MAF. They called
me up and said I needed to replace it, a used piece was $475!!!!!! I asked
if they cleaned it and they said yup it needs to go though. I ordered the
part (comes in on wed. so I've got time), but I went to pick up my truck in
the meantime. I tested volts according to haynes manual on the MAF and
they were perfect. Both wires in the hole under the airfilter are intact and
looked clean. Does it need to
be replaced??? Or is that supposed cleaning they gave it good enough?

Thanks in advance!!!!

By chance are you using a aftermarket air filter? Try and clean it and see if it
runs better!
