2003 Nissan Frontier XE 3.3 V6

Truck is at normal temp, if stopped/idle for 5 min with AC on temperature begins to rise towards high mark, ~3/4. If rev engine, temp gradually returns to normal ~1/2. if AC off temp returns to norm.
When moving again temp returns to norm.
Temp only rises at idle after 5-6 min. Coolant levels good, test of coolant good.
Truck does have codes for TPS and idles OK, maybe rough though.
Also has codes(Engine lite on) for Knock sensor and Catalyst efficiency.

Is this normal, could low idle be why temp rises as water pmp less?
Is OK to run idle at ~3/4 or even just below first high temp mark?

Thanks

I would check to see how clean your condensor is, if it's plugged up some with dirt, bugs, or the fins are bent this will decrease airflow through it.  When you rev you're spinning the fan blade faster increasing the airflow rate.

Did you clean it with compressed air or a garden hose??The best way is to remove the radiator, clean it and then hose the condenser.

Does it go up beyond the 3/4 mark while at idle?  Some rise in temp is expected while sititng still since there's little air flow.

I had a similiar problem, turned out to be a plugged radiator.

Thanks for responses.

I had hosed down condenser and radiator with high pressure sprayer (careful not to bend fins).

Just flushed with Prestone flush, flushed twice with water and refilled 50/50.

Still after 6-7 min at idle parked it rose to above 3/4.  It is night too so temp here in AZ will be higher tomorrow.

Fan seems to be turning and putting out air, seems to increase air flow when engine reved.  Do not know much about clutch fans, seem stupid, like one more thing to go wrong (or sell !).

Maybe will try radiator but not my truck, I'll have to ask her.  Replace rad on nissan seems like a pain, I have Hondas took 10 min.  Why so difficult to remove/work on?

Hosing down and hosing straight at the fins from the BACK side are two different things. The most effective way is to remove the rad hose it off, then you can get directly to the condenser from the back side and hose it correctly.

The first problem is where you live, your cooling system has to be at 100%
with the hot and dry air you get in Arizona, even a partially plugged rad will
give you problems, you can take it to a rad shop and have it flow tested!
