I have a 2007 frontier, manual transmission, with 63,000
miles on it. I bought the vehicle used but in really good
shape. Recently I've noticed that my engine sounds as
though it is hitting really high rpms when it isn't. For
instance if I'm in 2nd gear I'm often tricked into
changing gears to third when I'm only at 2,000 rpms
because it sounds like the engine is at 3,000 rpms or
greater. There has also been a squeaking sound when I
start the truck and sometimes when I'm in gear, mostly 1-
3 but I've heard it in 4-5.

Is this an issue that any of you have had? I couldn't
find any topics that seemed to describe what I'm hearing.
Is it a belt issue? A clutch issue? Any help would be
appreciated.

The fast engine sound is probably your clutched thermostatically controlled fan engaging and causing a "roaring" noise.  Makes the engine sound like it is going really fast but it isn't.  This usually means that your fan clutch is kaput and needs replaced.  This is not really an uncommon problem with vehicles of all makes and models.  Try a junkyard first to see how much one will be for your truck.  Probably much cheaper than a  new one.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense, a few people who have
rode with me have told me that it sounds like a roaring fan
noise. I'll take a look at it.
