I have a 2000 Frontier, auto, 2.4, 105k miles.  About a year ago noticed a small squeaking noise comming from the engine.  What started as a 'pipsqueak' grew into a moderate squeak.  Took to my mechanic he replaced belt.  Squeak diminished back to the 'pip'.  Now 10 months later back to a real SQUEAK.  Hstory:

Only squeaks with a/c running or with defrost on.  Squeaks no other time.  Replaced belt 10 months ago.  Tightened belt last week.  A/C cools fine.  At speeds 0-35 no squeak, 35-55 appx. 1 squeak/min,  55 and above appx. 3 squeaks/min.  Prolonged squek at start-up,  and during accelaration.  Seems to squeak more when the air temp. is above 90.

Any help or ideas for 'ole' squeaky pete out there??

Are you using GENUINE NISSAN BELTS???? Also clean the comp clutch with some brake parts cleaner.

Unknown on belt.  Most likely not cause used non nissan mech.  Would it be better to replace whole comp. unit or just the clutch if bad?  Will clean clutch next day off.

Thanks, Squeaky

I would change the belt w/ a Nissan belt and clean the clutch before replacing the comp.

I had the same issue on my 02, and it was just the belt. If the squeak stops when you turn off the ac, then you need to change the belt again.
