has anyone replaced the front shocks/struts on a 2008 frontier 4wd. one company states you can replace w/o special tools. but i thought it took special tools and lift to change them.

It is a coil over shock. And yes, you need a spring
compressor to remove the spring.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought it was a strut?

please correct me if i'm mistaken, but i believe all a strut is, is a integrated shock/coil. i would imagine the spring is not as strong as the old conventional ones and the shock is stronger.
whatever the case, i do know without the proper spring compressor and extreme care you can do some real damage to the body, and i don't mean the vehicle.
i've done it once and really prefer not to do it again.
the frontier is a good truck but between the struts and the impossible to get to plugs, i wonder if they're worth it.
