My ECM relay went out and I fixed the problem by swapping relays. Found out that it was a recall.
Weeks later, stopped to buy groceries and the truck would not start. (All electrical works, when ignition switch turned to start...nothing.) **After checking electrical, power to starter is 12V+, during start however, voltage drops almost 5V. 1) I pulled starter relay on IPDM and jumped with wire...truck starts when bridging 87 and 30. 2) Voltage reads only 4V or less on IPDM. Power is not being sufficiently supplied to ignition relay point?? .....Also, when the truck is started via jumping the relay, the truck drives very poorly. NO POWER, except in reverse.
I am wondering if this will require a new IPDM or if something like the transmission relay or what not is faulty...
ANY help would be great! I'm hoping that im not gonna be spending days playing around with a voltmeter and a battery charger....

So weak point #1 is the relay location in the IPDM @ starter relay. --NOT getting 12V at any of the posts. More like 3-4V. --Starts with jumping the relay... --Runs terribly, no power
Won't start without jumping the relay. **no blown fuses **relays passed check

The ECU relay is different from the other relays although
it looks the same. And yes, there is a recall.

Yes, i fixed the ECM issue.
I'm just wondering if anyone has had a problem with the stater not getting the correct power and voltage from the IPDM slot -- the RELAY. The darn IPDM is all motherboard and sodered production style so you cannot even be a mechanic or engineer on the thing and reroute or rewire the system. I'm gonna have to learn how to re-soder in a capacitor onto the IPDM and customize the board into working.
OTHERWISE, what's the problem gonna be other than a bad IPDM? Why would there be not enough voltage comming through the pins on the relay spot for starter??

I'm just not sold yet that by replacing the IPDM, i;m going to fix the problem...

Have you load tested the power feed to the IPDM E/R. If
that is OK, the problem has to be in the IPDM E/R.

I did a voltage check on the RED and WHITE wiring harness supplying power to the IPDM. Came back with 12+Volts
I'm assuming that this is the power supply to the IPDM. What do you mean by a Load test though... Thanks...let me know if i have to perform a different variation to test the incoming power.

I have not tested the power supply while the truck is idling. I will do this, also, the door open ignition on 10x door switch.
I'm just wondering if the CAN lines may have anything to do with this. Ironic and fairly obvious to me though is that the power supply @ the relay poles was not even close to 5v let alone 12v.
Only reason this is taking so long...i'm working on a 86 4runner, 93 7.4l 454, and a 84 CJ-7. Lots of trucks in the yard right now :P Man, the new stuff isn't tough or anything but i miss being able to re-route or re-engineer the stuff. The new vehicles just makes everything a break and re-bolt on the new part situation. Lots of diagnostic time...all well. Funny how the MPG and performance hasn't changed since the 70's. I'd take a 70's ford or an 80's toyota truck over anything still. Who needs airbags anyways?! Ha, that might be fun though wiring bags into the old classics....haven't done that yet.

The circuit may support a test light, but try using a head
light bulb which requires more current to operate and see
if it lights up bright.

Ya i used a voltmeter and it read 12v at all the posts...but the starter post was very weak....around 3.4 volts. That is why i had to jump the relay @ the 87 and 30 post.
I'm just wondering if the CAN lines have anything to do with the power supply...i'll have to look at the FSM manual again
