hello nissan people

I have a 98 frontier, about 175k miles, 4wd, 4 cylinder 2.4liter, last owner was rough on it, had an aftermarket sterio installed by previous owner which was removed

i believe i have an ignition problem, on a normal truck you can turn the key one notch and get the auxillary power then one more notch turns it over. sometimes when i turn off the truck and remove the key the auxillary power stays on. sometimes im able to remove the key and the truck is still running. when this happens i put the key back in, turn it to the auxillary notch, and turn it off like normal. when im in a hurry and dont catch it the battery drains and hours later i come back to a dead truck. i dont see any obvious wire problems (corrosions or cuts or bare wires). im considering putting in a battery kill switch to simply disconnect the battery every time i get out.

any thoughts on the matter? thanks
