I've got a 2004 Nissan Frontier and the front driver side
blinker quit working, with the normal "fast flash"
indicating that my turn signal was out.
I bought the correct bulbs and went to replace it, but
found that the original bulb wasn't blown. The new bulbs
didn't work either (I tried both new bulbs).
Then I used an electrical tester and found that I am
getting power (the kind that look like a screw driver
with a bulb that lights up).
I checked the fuses, but I didn't see one specifically
for the blinkers, and all the ones I checked were okay.
The large yellow blinker at the bottom of the assembly
doesn't work at all, and the smaller yellow light above
it flashes really fast (I'm guessing this is a parking
light that substitues for a blinker when one goes out).

What are you referring to as the "blinker"? There should
only be one bulb for each side on the front and one bulb on
each side in the rear for the turn signals and
flashers(using the same bulb). If one side blinks fast, it
is usually because one end has a blown bulb or open
connection. You stated that you have power, but do you have
a ground to complete the circuit?????

The "blinkers" are the turn signal bulbs.
The turn signal bulb isn't blown.
Since the electrical tester was flashing there must be a
good ground.

Are you saying you put the tester in the exterior turn signal lightbulb sockets and it tested OK but the lightbulbs don't work?
It might be a contact in the steering columb.

Thanks for your replies!
I put the ends of the tester in where the bulb plugs in
(it doesn't screw in, it plugs in). The tester flashed.
When I put any of the 3 working bulbs I have into the
socket, they did not light up.
I should say that the tester flashed on and off quickly.
The tester flashed at the same rate the blinkers flash
when one burns out.
The nearest Nissan dealer is 3 hours away, and this
doesn't sound like a known bug. I guess I might have to
make a trip and spend some cash :(

I am inclined to say that you should at the very least check your ground. Ground issues can produce odd and varied symptoms, and I would never assume anything about the health of my electrical system without checking it firsthand.
What I'm getting at is that there is a small chance that the way your tester is set up could lead to it indicating voltage, which obviously there is, but it may say nothing about a return path for those electrons. I would check continuity between the socket (or connector (or both)) and the frame. It's too easy to rule out, I figure, "leave no stone unturned". Also try contact cleaner in both the connector and socket. Ya never know.

Be sure the contacts in the sockets haven't been spread too
far apart making poor connection for the bulb.

Another good suggestion frontierguy... thanks! I think
they're pretty tight because the bulb is hard to click into
and out of the connector.
