Hi all,
I was wondering if anybody knows the function for the
Canister (Part # 14950-EA20B) and Valve Assembly (Part
#14935-JF00B). I tried to seek my answer by google
searches, but the results only yielded me with part
prices instead of an explanation behind the function and
purpose of these devices. All I know from what the
dealership explained, these two parts have something to
do with emission controls and ensuring that my truck
complies with emission regulations. Maybe even fuel
management as well?
My MIL light came on for my 2006 Nissan Frontier XE @
105946 KMs. I was hoping that the MIL light was because
I didn't tighten the fuel cap, but upon diagnosis by my
local Nissan dealership resulted with a ~760 repair.
After replacing, I have noticed it has gotten quieter
with day-to-day operation of the truck.
Thanks in advance!

Gas tanks need to be able to "breathe". However emission
laws don't allow for gas fumes to be release because the
carbons. The canister is filled with charcoal which soaks
these up, the valve is used to allow the "clean air"
pressure to release.

Thanks kcidmil!
Your explanation makes sense. Though I am pained
financially from this surprise repair, I'd rather get it
repaired and out of the way so that I may worry about other
things in life.
