I have seen two different AC expansion valves for my truck.  My truck is Manuf 11/00 but is an 2001 frontier 4x4 SC.  Most parts stores are showing a expansion valve with two sensors attached. One sensor comes out of the top of the valve and the other comes out of the side.  Then I see another expansion valve with just one sensor on the top of the valve.  Without disassembling the Cooler unit under the dash how do I know which one is the right one to order?  Now that I have the hoses to replace anyone think replacing the condenser is a good idea? The air was not that cold before the hose blew out.  I have the shop manual but it does not show the expansion valve very well.

The one sensor on top what you need. It covers 07/2000-
02/2001 KC.(SE+SC) & CC.

Model years start in Oct and end the following Sept. So
2001 models were sold from Oct 2000 - Sept 2001. However
to make sure vehicles are available on the lot, they'll
start producing earlier. In the Frontier case they
started around July.

This is how a lot of companies track their finances too,
known as Fiscal Year.

Production dates come in handy when it comes to mid-year
changes (Ford is notorious for this). Sometimes
manufacturers will either have to change suppliers or
find a problem real early. This will cause mid-year
changes on the assembly line, thus the different parts.
Which is what happened here when in March 2001 Nissan
started to use a different sensor, my guess is in
anticipation of the new 2002 design coming out.

Courtesy Parts is a good place to look for parts vs parts
stores in town. A lot of times they can't narrow down by
production date.

You really hit the nail on the head. The manufactured date is so important. I really had a tough one back in 1970. A 66 Plymouth V-8 with a later timing chain on a rush R&R job. Needless to say I was late getting the job out while waiting for the parts exchange.

Have a good one.. Just reach for it!.. Don S.

11 years of experience... especially when it came to
running a body shop. It's a lot of fun when you have
different manufacturers on 1 vehicle.
