Is there a easier and cheaper way to clear system codes
without paying $100 to the dealer just to hook up their
code-reader?
I took off the center console cover, and unplugged the
passenger airbag indicator in the process, in order to
remove radio. I plugged the indicator back in and
replaced the console cover. Ever since, I have had a
flashing air bag light. I never did anything with the
airbag components.
I unplugged and took off the throttle body, in order to
clean it. Put it back on and plugged in, now the SERVICE
ENGINE light comes on. It goes off after a day or so,
then it comes back on. (yes, the gas cap is on, lol).
Will unplugging the battery and ECU for 5 minutes clear
the codes? If there is a legit problem, it will come
back anyway, right?
Thank you

The Airbag light you're stuck. While it's hooked to the
OBDII system, the airbags have their own "language". You
need a scanner that is a capable of reading that system.
A lot of the cheap scanners can't even see that side.
You'd need something along the lines of a Snap-on MODIS
or OTC Genisys.
However the battery disconnect trick should work on your
service light, provided nothing is actually wrong. Since
the light is going on and off I think you might have a
real problem. Most parts stores will read your codes for
free. So you could at least go down and see what the ECU
is saying is a problem.

Oh, and by the way, it was when the serpentine belt came
off and I put it back on, when I decided to take off
throttle body and clean it. Maybe it was the the fact that
the belt came off that caused the service light to come on.
Besides disconnecting the battery, should I also disconnect
the ECU too?

The correct way of cleaning the throttle body is, turn
ignition on, hold throttle pedal to floor, spray cleaner on
rag, wipe out throttle, perform IAVL procedure. If you did
it any other way, you have more than likely damaged the
throttle assy.
