Bought our new Frontier, got it home and in the sunlight
noticed a ding in the passenger rear door. I have been in
the tooling and detail industry all my life, and it is a
dent in the metal and was painted over. Called and they
had me come up its over 100 miles away, and tried to get
a picture but with the color of the truck and it being
under the paint impossible. So three employee's all
agreed and even found a second dent next to the larger
one.
Now I am getting the run around. They want to send it
out to a body shop for repair. I do not want a repaired
door I want a new door like I was suppose to have and
paying for. No matter what they do to repair it , it
will eventually come back through, and I do not want a
history of repair on something that I did not do or was
not liable for.
They say this is a big ticket item! What does that have
to do with me? What if the engine blew do they piece it
back together?
This seems like a no brainer to me, and I am livid that
they have no honor at all.
I guess I now have to pull out some power plays to
corporate and if that does not work get a attorney. A
multi billion dollar corporation and this is how it
treats a problem by putting a band aide on it. I would
rather drive it as is, rather than have it repaired.
Any suggestions or experiences that may help would
appreciate it. I have bought two cars from Nissan and
never ever had a problem until now. Traded in my 05
Murano that in 7 years got above blue book as its as nice
as when I bought it. Would expect at least that with a
new car. Thanks In Advance.

man this is a tough one and would be a tough legal
battle. To break it down.
Their side is going to be you signed and took delivery.
And they're offering to repair the door at no cost.
~vs~
You'll have you bought a new vehicle and didn't see the
damage till you got home after signing for delivery. And
wish to have a new door in lieu of repair.
After seeing and being a part of a few legal battles
paperwork will be your biggest obstacle, and I could only
see either a free fix, or a small check to offset the
value due to damage. In my opinion you 3 options.
1. Return the vehicle for a different one
2. Keep the damage and push for a check cut from nissan
3. Push them for a Paintless Dent Repair which would be
your closest bet to keeping it original.
Because it could be a hassle on either a regular repair
or door replacement. Either way is going to involve some
blending which could easily go wrong. Plus if you have a
lot of metallic in your paint the harder it's going to be
for it to look right.
Honestly I put your chances of getting a voluntary or
even court order door replacement at about 10%. But then
again and you might get lucky and get a judge who would
side with you.

Thank your for your reply. Unfortunately it is not about
ethics anymore. 7 years ago when we bought our showroom
Murano we opted for the Zylon and in about a year it
failed. They did not blink an eye and not only redid it
but did the interior and compounded and rubbed the whole
car, did tires ,wheels everything. They stood up for the
name of Nissan.
Even the dealer and everyone who looked at the door could
not see it until you stood in a certain position and
light. Then it is very noticeable. We should not be
held responsible for a default that was caused buy
Nissan? The scary thing is if they are going to Mickey
Mouse something as small as this, what if something that
is not humanly possible to see up front goes wrong like a
blown engine?
It is just wrong. And if it does not go in our favor, I
will make sure its known, and if it does go in our favor
also make sure they get the kudo's.
Nissan should be ashamed that they would even try to
cheat someone out of what they just paid for, even a
check will not make this right. The wait on a new truck
if they can find a 2012 is 4 months. We have looked into
it, and also all promo's at the time would no longer
apply if we could even get the same package SL with all
the bells and whistles we got.
Thanks again.

I agree with kcidmil, I would opt for the paintless repair.
We have a "DENT GUY" that comes around to the dealerships
and does some excellent work on dings that don't need paint
work. My Frontier has the chipping in front of the rear
wheels, had it redone at Nissan's expense when it was less
than a year old, seeing it again now at over 4 yrs
old!!!!!I feel your pain!

I am going to leave it rather than have it messed with.
Being in the industry for many years to many things can go
wrong and I do not want a repair history on it or it coming
back. Nissan has just lost me and anyone else I talk to as
a potential customer. Probably makes them no difference
but will never buy another car from them. Where we live no
one cares about quality of workmanship there was barely any
water in the battery, windshield wipers, compound in all the
cracks and windows just left there, and 45 pounds of air in
two tires 30 in the other two. Just a sign of the times
as never had a problem until now with them. Thanks for the
honest replies,

Won't argue with you on that one. A few years ago we
ordered a bunch of new vehicles from GM. When they
arrived we were doing our incoming inspection, and the
only thing filled was the engine and trans. Transfer and
axles were empty. Come to find out this is left to the
dealer to handle at their expense (we bypass the dealer
due to contract with GM). I could easily see how one
could slip through the cracks and get sold without
anything in it.
It's getting harder and harder to find a manufacturer or
dealership that will take care of their customers. It's
all about money anymore, which they're forgetting that
the average person is having less and less to spend.

Worked at a Chevy dealer years ago. New cars and trucks coming off
the trailer from the factory were often dinged up. We also had a dent
repair guy that took care of them.
Had your dealer noticed the dent before you ever saw the truck they
may have had it fixed at a body shop and you wouldn't have known
any better.
I'd take the free fix.

Thanks for the reply the dent is so small that I can live
with it. The factory paint goes through a oven bake
process they will never match the paint correctly and it
will show up again anyway. No way to ever get it to not
show again so better to leave it alone. What you do not
know you don't know but I know and paid for a new door its
just principal which means nothing anymore.
Thanks..
