I have a 2000 Nissan Frontier 3.3 V6. It's a 4x2 but 4wd is stamped on the side of the transmission. When I was driving I heard a noise that sounded like a floor jack sliding in the back of my truck. I didn't stop because I thought it was my floor jack. I didn't know that my wife had taken my floor jack out. I pulled into my drive and when I went to put my truck in park, it jerked when going into park. When I went to leave, my truck wouldn't move. The engine does not change idle speeds when I shift the gears either. I put it in neutral and checked all the wheels and drive shaft and they seem to be working fine except some squeaking from the front of the drive shaft where it goes into the transmission. I checked the linkage and wires and they look fine. I checked the transmission fluid and it's fine. The engine isn't showing any problems, it just won't move. I can hear an electrical noise above the transmission when laying under the truck when I have an assistant put it in drive or reverse gear with the ignition switch on, but i'm not sure if that's normal or not. I haven't had any transmission problems or symptoms that I know of until today.

Ok. After letting it set, I tried it again. It will move in forward but I have to push the gas pedal to force it but it won't move in any other gear. I needed to push the truck out of the way so I put it in neutral and went to push it and it started making a popping sound at the front of the drive shaft/tail of the transmission.

Yes. Goes in park fine. Can't understand why it never showed any kind of a warning. Well, guess i'll save up for a transmission.

I just noticed that the gear shifter moves without pressing the brake. Could it be in limp mode?

Nope, it's shot! I just dropped the pan & found a washer & what looks like a needle bearing & a bunch of metal particles.

Ok. I changed out the tranny with a used one from a Nissan that had been wrecked. Everything works perfect EXCEPT the speed odometer. My old tranny had a wire made on the vss & the replacement does not so I thought i'd just change them out. Nope! The one from the old tranny has a small gear & the replacement has a large gear & the wire plugin is different. I'm not sure what to do now. Any suggestions?

Try connecting the harness to the VSS with a temp. wire and
see if the speedo operates, if so make a permanent
connection for it.

I thought about that but I wasn't sure if they had internal differences as well. I checked to see how much they were new & the original one is around $150. & the replacement only cost a little under $50. which made me think that maybe there was something different internally. I'm going to go ahead & try it. If there is a difference then the tcm should throw a code & then i'll know. Thanks!
