This is a 2002 Frontier.  About 10 or 15 minutes after startup, it starts running rough, looses power, and finally kills.  Let it cool off, repeat.  Changed distributor cap, rotary cap, and fuel filter.  Runs better on startup, but still does the same thing. Bought a pvc valve, but haven't changed it yet. Any help would be welcome.  Catalytic converters are ok

Sounds like you might have a clogged fuel filter.  Even though you changed it, there might be a problem with fuel getting through.

Also, check to see if you are forming a vacuum in the fuel tank.  When it starts to run roughly, open the gas filler cap and see if you can hear air rushing in.

You could also possibly have a vacuum leak that gets much worse as the engine warms up.

Ok, it has about 135000 miles on it. No check engine light. We put a code reader on it, it comes up with the knock sensor being bad.  But from what I read, the symptoms of a bad knock sensor don't sound like the problems we are having. Gonna change it, but it's a tough job, bad location. After we change that, I will post how it is running. There was no other code except the knock sensor, maybe that will change after we replace it.  Thought it might be the timing belt, but it turns out it has a timing chain.

..

Opppps... timing chain ??

I was was not aware these engines had chains. But Chain or
belt I doubt it would be the problem even if it jumped a
tooth or two.

Good luck.. Don S..

Did you use Nissan distributor parts?  Have you pulled the distributor and looked at the shaft and body?  Carbon tracks or other conductive crud can build up and cause all kinds of wierd behavior.

If you have a coil, check it.  These can go bad with the symptoms you are describing.

Got the parts from Autozone.  Don't know where the coil is or what it looks like.  Got the knock sensor changed.  The truck is no longer killing, but it is still idleing very rough after about 10 minutes.  No codes at all now.  I was thinking maybe the EGR valve was stuck closed or blocked up.  But wouldn't that throw a code.  Also haven't located it to try and clean it.I imagine it could still be a number of other things, but it would be something that doesn't throw a code.

The 3.3 has a belt NOT CHAIN.
