I recently locked my tailgate in order to secure my bed extender, and now I'm having real trouble getting the tailgate unlocked. There's very little resistance when I pull on the tailgate handle - not sure if that's how it should feel when it's locked. Regardless, I can't unlock it (i.e., turn the key to the left) for the life of me. Wasn't sure if anyone else had run into problems with Frontier locking tailgates. Mine is an '03 XE.

I had a simillar problem. The only way that I could open the tailgate was to insert my key into the lock, turn and hold the key in the unlocked position, and pull on the tailgate handle at the same time. The cause of my problem was a broken nylon pin. When you turn your key to lock and unlock the tailgate, there is a nylon pin which will hold the lock (a sliding bar) in the open position. With the nylon pin broken, the lock (a sliding bar) would slide back into the locked position. I had to replace the whole plastic housing on the tailgate and transplant the lock assembly from the broken housing to the new one. Hope this helps...
