Well one make sure the vehicle is actually local. DO NOT believe the ones out of state that will deliver with "30 Days to change your mind"
As for payment, it depends upon if you can afford it or not. If you've got the money saved up you can do a check. If not you'll need to do a loan, which a lot of banks are wary on it, but some will. In which case the bank will cut a check to the owner.
As for warranty, it depends upon the company offering the warranty. And you would have to check the fine print for it. If it's Nissan factory warranty you'd have to check into that.
As for the good vehicle it's always a crap shoot even when buying new. A good mechanic that you know personally is the best way, and will bring you out to look at the vehicle if insurance allows it (and the whole no customers in the bay for insurance is kind of bs too, i've been in plenty of bays with that. Of course I'm a mechanic by trade and own a very rare vehicle for this area so everyone wants a closer look lol). I've known a couple of mechanics that will overlook a few things in hopes it will bring business later.
With craigslist (around here) majority of the time it's a just a regular person trying to get rid of a bill.
