So I am about to get into the truck and I open the door
and start the truck up and let it warm up to defrost and
then the most ungodly smell comes out of the vents....yes
once again those pesky mice are trying to make a nest in
the cabin air filter area in less than 24hrs. To combat
these critters, I have become religious about changing
cabin filters, (I live in a real rural wooded area
surround by state parks). The trick I found is to apply
some quality real not synthetic peppermint oil to the
paper filter before installing and don't be shy about it.
Nissan doesn't make it easy to access this filter, which
is why I should have changed it the last 3000 mile oil
change. This does seem to end the problem as the mice do
not like the smell and avoid any other areas I place it
on. As an added bonus, I find it much more preferable to
those hanging overpriced perfumed freshners that the auto
parts store sells. So I thought I would pass this
along...it also works to protect automatic backup house
electric generators!

Putting pieces of metal screen over the inlets in the cowl
area will keep them out of the cabin filter.

Good idea!

Many Rodents including the tree ones eat wiring insulation. The marmots the live above 10,000 ft will eat coolant hoses and drink the anti freeze. After that if the engine is still warm they’ll bed down in the fan belt for a nice snooze. I have a video showing a Marmot nibbling on a rubber mud flap on my Frontier.

Look at the bottom pictures in the DVD cover

Have a warm one.. Don S
