So I have had this problem since I got the truck, but I have managed. My dipstick does not read properly. There is no line of oil anywhere on the dipstick.  Any way I check it, it always does the same thing. The oil is always smeared over the end of the stick.

When I change the oil, I always put exactly what the manual says to put. The thing that sucks its that I can't check the oil level to see if its ok or not. Does anyone else have this problem, or know what I can do to fix it?

Thanks

I think your Dipstick isn't long enough.

My first girlfriend to me the very same thing...  I traded her in in!

LOL!

Seriously though. Does anyone actually know whats wrong? Just in case it is too short or too long, what is the average length of a dip stick?

I know this sounds bad, I can't even write this stuff with a strait face. But I am being serious about the problem.

Funny stuff aside, anyone have any ideas?

I'm sure you're smarter than this, but I just have to ask.  You are checking the oil with the engine off and on level ground right?  In order to get the most accurate read, make sure the truck is warm and hasn't been running for 5-10 minutes.  Sometimes the manufacturer will put the dipstick tube right under one of the oil return holes in the cylinder head which will drip oil on it for a few minutes causing an incorrect reading.

I have waited 10 minutes, i waited 30 minutes, and I have let the truck sit over night. All of them reveal the same thing. Just oil on the dipstick with no recognizeable line what so ever. I also, wipe the dipstick off when i take it out, then re-insert it to get an accurate reading...but there is never a reading.

Also, I live in southern louisiana...the ground really can't get more level than where I live.

..

thedave360;

There are to sizes of Nisson Oil filters that I know of. They are inter changeable when you screw them on the Frontier 3.3 V-6 or the 1.8 I-4 Sentra. But one holds more oil. The ‘truck” filter (#15208-9E000) is larger but I use it on our Sentra also but have to add a little more oil than the call-out.

 My ’76 401 Wagoneer reads ˝ a quart low after properly changing oil and filter so I filed a full mark on the dip stick. Take your dip stick to a Nissan parts department and compare them.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

Tip of the Month … Keep a fire extinguisher handy…even if it is not a Ford…
