sounds to me like your temp guage sending unit is stuck closed, sending a full 12v to the guage.

Mechanic replaced sending unit. Genuine Nissan part. Said maybe wiring, but no other guages affected. He gave up.

man this would be so much easier with the truck right here.  Is it at full HOT, or just in between?

Guage goes full hot after only a few minutes.
Stays at full hot until switched off.

Have you tried unplugging the sending unit? If you do and it continues to show hot, you have a wire shorted to ground or a problem in the comb meter.

Mechanic disconnected and reconnected the wire to the sending unit several times and it would reset to COLD mark, then when driven, it climbs to HOT and stays until you switch the vehicle off. He was out of ideas except to say it may be in the harness.

Have you verified that it in fact is or is not actually running hot. If the guage goes to cold with it unplugged and engine running or ignition on, that indicates that it is a faulty sending unit or the engine is actually running hot. How about a few specs on the truck: eng - trans - 2wd - tach ??????????????? I can get a wiring diagram, but I need to know what you have.
