Hi Guys,

When turning right and braking, the abs kicks in..Has anyone heard of this problem before?

Is it possible to disable the ABS until I can fix this problem?

Mike

The ABS will not function correctly until the malfunction is corrected.

Sorry, it is a 2002 Frontier 4x4 SE.

I realize that the abs won't work properly until it is fixed, but can the abs be disabled and still use the brakes?

Have you had it scanned for codes yet? Take a look at the wiring to the sensors, see if there is any obvious damage, check fr wheel bearings for looseness, check sensor rings for damage or cracks. Has the rear sensor recall been done??? Not sure of the liability on disconnecting the ABS system.

Are you sure the air pressure is the same in both front tires?  Having a seriously deflated tire might cause this as the wheel speeds will be quite different due to the changed tire radius.  Just a thought.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I bought the truck used, so I am not sure about the rear center recall, i will look into it.  Once this blizzard stops here I will check the wiring for the sensors and the wheel bearings (the truck is not showing any symptoms of a bad wheel bearing though)

The tires are equally inflated and in great contition.

Keep the ideas coming,

Mike

If you disconnest the ABS and have an accident and get sued, you could be in BIG trouble in court.  Don't do this.

It seems that the system is sensing a big difference in wheel speed between the two front wheels or between the front and rear wheels.  Follow Frontierguys advice.  If nothing is obvious, you prbably need a dealer or good shop to look at this.

Another thought, you could have a binding caliper that is causing one of the front wheels to lock up a bit, triggering the ABS.  Again, you need to have this figured out and repaired for safe driving before it gets worse.
