I have a 2000 Frontier Crew Cab with a manual sunroof and like many I'm sure, it is noisy.  I hear a rattling sound on the drivers side...when I took out the sunroof completely, I noticed two black "moveable" plastic parts or clips in the frame drainage tray on both sides which I thinking are moving... first question, what are those parts used for and can we simply remove them???  Have no idea what purpose they serve and is probably the reason there is so much noise when driving.

Yes, it is the flip up sunroof...I'm pretty sure it isn't the roof rack. 

 I also removed the front plastic wind deflector (I'm guessing that is what it is called) that is attached to the roof rack.  For all that have these type of sunroofs...remove the glass totally out of the frame (very easy to do, follow owners manual) and look inside the tray (gutter area) on top of your roof and you should see two "flaps" on hinges that move...DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THESE THINGS ARE USED FOR???  I believe these are moving up and down when driving which is causing the annoying noise.
