I decided to do a tune up yesterday on my 02 frontier 3.3L V6.  I bought some new NGK spark plugs and went ahead and installed them.  The sixth one is nearly impossible to excess.  So when I started the truck I hear this tick tick tick noise.  I think its the sixth spark plug not fully seated in there and air is escaping.  When I tighten the plug it seems to seat rather quickly compared to the other ones.  That is why I think it's not all the way in.  It could also be arcing?  I don't know, I'm at a loss.  Any one know what the problem is?  Or how to tell if the plug is all the way in?

There should be a spark plug tool in the tire tool kit that came with the truck. It was in the early model trucks, but not sure on the later models. Sounds like you cross threaded it and it 's only in by a couple of threads-get it out - run a thread chaser in the hole - start engine with the plug out to blow out any debris. Did you blow out the plug cavities with compressed air before removing the plugs???? You would be surprised with the amount of crud that accumulates around the plugs.

Agree. You cross threaded.  Old trick...start a new plug into the hole by putting a piece of rubber tubing about 6" long on the plug.  Then place plug into the threaded hole and turn the hose.  You can't get enough torque this way to cross thread but the plug can move around and find the threads.

I appreciate the input guys thanks.  I've learned my lesson and would like to just let everyone know to never change the spark plugs in your 3.3L 01-04 frontier.  Had to bring it to my mechanic and got raped for 550 dollars because it cross threaded and ruined the first 3 threads.  Had to rip intake manifold off to get to that 6th spark plug and put a helicoil in, and new intake gasket.  Said it was one of the most ridiculous vehicles he's ever worked on.  Amazing.  Why would you ever put a spark plug there in the first place?  Smart design.

Your mechanic gave you a hosing!!!! At best, it would have taken a couple of hours to remove the upper intake and run a thread chaser or worst, put a helicoil in. One of the easiest engines to work on with the proper tools and knowledge.
