I have a 2000 Nissan Fronier SE crewcab, 4x4 V6. I have been having a lot
of issues over the past 3 years. I have had the truck since new and it now
has about 198,500 miles on it. I have replaced almost everything minor over
the years and just recently put in a new knock sensor, cap & rotor and
distributor. I have been having an ongoing problem with my dash though. It
works whenever it wants to, speedometer, odometer, gas gage, tach,
everything wacks out while driving. The odometer either scrambles, fades,
disappears complete or shows half of numbers. I have noticed in the past year
that it has not been counting miles while it is in this state also. Basically I have
gotten it through inspection for the past 3 years with this issue without it
getting fixed and have been relying on my GPS to tell me my speed. Pathetic, I
know but no one (Even the dealer) can give me an answer on what it is. I also
been getting my O/D off button flashing when I turn my car on and my check
engine light is currently on with a 0440 reading. And yes, I have cleared it and
checked my gas cap and have gotten the recall fixed a few years ago. Also, a
while ago my ABS light would come on while driving, just randomly or my anti-
lock breaks would kick in while coming to a normal stop on a dry road. It hasn't
been an issue lately and just kind of went away, but it was kind of concerning to
me.
Can someone PLEASE help me?! I am getting it inspected on Tuesday, and
even though crossing my fingers has worked for 3 years, Im not feeling too
lucky this time. I need to get this problem fixed!!
Thanks!

Sounds like its time for a new truck. That seems like alot of problems to have to deal with. I traded in a Toyota Tacoma with 185,000 on the ODO and the only thing I have had an issue with was the Starter, replaced it myself. Oh and the dash lights started to fade on the center consol. I miss that truck, Nissan just had a better deal when I got rid of the Taco.

I thought the pic was crazy, wow 100mph sitting still, classic. I have a commuter car, Pontiac The milage counter bleeps in and out, scambles and what not, usually goes back to normal. When it comes to electical, its anyones guess. I hope she passes for you again. I am lucky, my state you only inspec your vehicle once when new and never again.

It's definitely time for a new truck. I just can't afford one yet and Im not even
sure I can afford to get it fixed. I started her up yesterday to take it to get
inspected and the dash wasn't working, so I decided to wait til a day that it
does. haha Im running out of days though...

You need to remove the meter assy.(speedo head etc) and tighten all the screws on the printed circuit board. If that doesn't do it, you will need to replace the meter assy. As far as the P0440 code, most likely the VCV is stuck open. where are you located in Pa.????? The ABS activation is usually caused from rust building up on the mounting surface for the sensors, creating too large of a gap or one of the tone rings is cracked or damaged.
