Greetings,

Well it happened on the freeway, no indication of anything wrong and then, total loss of power, it just shutdown. I coasted to the shouder with the flasher going and came to a full stop; now the check engine light is on.

Tried cranking it, it tunrned over, seemed a little slow too me, but no thought of starting. Checked under the hood, no fluids lost, no smoke when she shut down. Tow truck city!

Truck is well maintained, never had any real problem, 125k but no timing belt replacement.

At the shop now, any ideas before they call me with the bad news?

Tanx

Greetings,

OK it's the timing belt! Quote for the belt replacement is about $450 but they want almost $800 more for the water pump!

Does that make sense?

Labor isn't cheap.  But that amount sounds ridiculous for the water pump.  Especially since they'll have to pull the water pump to get to the timing belt.  This is why you'll find a lot of people refer to them as "stealerships"

Honestly I would do some research and find a mechanic around town that works on imports and get a qoute from them.

NO!!! It is about 5 hrs labor for the belt, 2 cam seals and front crank seal, another 1/2 hr for the water pump. You are already in there, I don't understand why and how they can get away with robbery like this!!! Find another shop.
