I have a 2005 Nissan Frontier and I went to check the tire pressure on my tires. It has a tire pressure warning system. I could not get the caps off the tire stems. I had to use a pair of pliers to twist them off. In doing so, the stems were destroyed. I went to put on a set of plastic stems and I read the package and it said to not put on tires that have a tire pressure warning system. Are the caps I destroyed "special"? What would you guys recommend. Alluminum, chrome ???? Any help would be appreciated.

Just use plastic caps, the metal ones will corrode and become very difficult or impossible to remove unless you use anti-seize on the threads.
