Hi All,
I have a 2006 Nissan Frontier XE with 40,000 miles.
I've been having a problem that I'm hoping you can help me trouble shoot:
Upon start up, the truck has very little power/torque in first and second gear. I basically have to rev it to 4k RPM for 10-15 seconds before the truck gets to 10 MPH in 1st. 2nd gear isn't much better. Once I've got some momentum, things seem slightly better in 3-5th gears, though the truck still seems to be struggling. Once the truck is warm, there seems to be slightly more power in the lower gears, but still not up to par.
My initial thoughts are that one of the cylinders isn't firing and to check/replace the spark plugs, but from what I know they shouldn't give out in 40k miles.
Are there any other reasons why this could be happening? I'm taking my truck into the shop tomorrow, but I'd like to know what to expect. I called the dealer but the guy I spoke to on the phone seemed pretty clueless.
Thanks for your help! -Thor

Are those the original spark plugs in there since you bought the truck, if that's the case then they probably need to be replaced.

TYhis is an auto trans and you are revving it to 4000 rpm and it is unresponsive? Have you thought to check the tranny fluid level?

Are you sure the clutch isn't slipping???? Plugs are good for 105K. Using a GENUINE NISSAN oil impregnated air filter?????

Frontier guy, how can he rev it to 4000 rpm until the truck gets to 10 mph if it is a stick? Sounds like an auto trans with big problems.

That all depends upon if they were replaced before, what kind of fuel he has around there, and how he drives the truck. A 105k plug can last less than 5k in the worst of conditions, trust me I've seen it happen.

If the clutch was slipping, why not??? I'm just assuming it's a manual, sure would be nice if people gave up a little more info. As far as the plugs go, pulled a set out of an '01 Xterra today with 104567 miles and they looked great for original plugs-the PFR5G-11 show very little wear due to the design of the plug.

Frontierguy, you could be right but man, a clutch slipping like that would probably smoke and smell! Thor310, how about some more information on your truck? Auto or manual? Odors, smoke? How is reverse?
