I have a 2003 Fronty with the 3.3L non-supercharged engine and i've been having overheating issues.  While warm and running the top radiator hose is hot and the bottom hose is cool to the touch.  If it is the thermostat, where is it's location and do you recommend NISSAN oem stuff or will a reputable name aftermarket one be good?

thanks,

Brian

OEM. Kind of buried on the front of the engine. How many miles? Are you due for a timing belt??? Have you tried blowing out the rad and cond from the back side to clean out the debris? Any air in the system-coolant overflow full????

My truck has 76,000 miles.  I'm sure the truck could use a timing belt.  The serpentine belt looks good-no cracking, no excessive slack.  I filled the coolant overflow on Sunday and when I looked today it was under "MIN".  I am planning on cleaning out the radiator with compressed air on the backside out.

I just thougt it was weird that the top radiator hose was hot when the bottom one was cool.

Do you have to take off the brackets holding the A/C pulleys and etc. to get to the thermostat?

It looks like a time-consuming ordeal!

Timing belt is good till 105K. If the coolant is escaping, you might want to check for a leak. Possible head gasket, intake gaskets, water outlet gasket among a few other possibilities.

Is it normal that the top radiator hose was hot when the
bottom one was cool?

It ended up being just the thermostat. I replaced it and all is well.
Thanks for the insight everyone!

Yeah, if one hose is hot and the other is cold, that's a good
indication that the thermostat is not opening. Arev you experiencing
the same thing?

No problem. Changing the thermostat is not that difficult.
