My ac was squealing like a stuck pig. I tightened
the belt and it didn't really do anything. I changed the
belt and the idler and a week later its back. I'm pretty
sure its my clutch so I need to see about changing it. I
looked in my haynes manual and it doesn't say anything
about the clutch. I have a few questions:

1. Can I change the compressor clutch with out removing
the
entire compressor?
2. Do I need a special tool to remove the clutch?
3. Does anyone know where I can get a clutch other than
the
stealership??

I have my doubts as to the clutch slipping and squealing, in fact I have never changed one for that concern. Are you using a GENUINE NISSAN BELT tightened correctly???? There are shims behind the clutch cover to set the correct clearance, that may need to be looked at. I guess it is possible the coil is getting weak and not allowing for proper engagement of the clutch???? With a Nissan clutch, they either work, don't, or they are seized, not much else in between.

Great! Maybe we can figure this thing out. I am using a
genuine nissan belt. How do I tell if its properly
tightened? It sure ain't too loose...too tight if
anything.
Could I have made the belt too tight and messed up those
shims or something. Excuse my ignorance of AC
systems...its
not my specialty.

idk if this would help but, its worst at start up since I
changed the belt. Even with the AC off it still squeaks
at start up. I got my wife to start it while I took a
look at the compressor. The sound was unbearable, it
sounds like metal on metal. I could be wrong though.

I'm beginning to suspect its not the clutch as frontierguy
said. I'm gonna take off one belt at a time and see which
one stops the noise. I'll repost my findings.
