Hello NissanFrontier forum members (BTW: Thanks for the resistor pack fix for the interior
fan motor switch. Soldered a jumper on the resistor board and all is well.)

Anyway, Time for the NEXT repair: My friend has a 2000 Frontier 4x2, V6, automatic transmission,
~125,000 miles on the clock.
She has mentioned a noise (& I have heard this "noise from below"). It sounds like a *clicking*
noise that varies with wheel speed. With some investigation, we discovered that the ticking /
clicking noise is coming from the bell housing area. I jacked up the back end and crawled under.
With the back wheels turning (with the transmission in Neutral), it is making a clicking noise
from the flywheel (flexplate) area [heard from between the engine / trans. from the underside of
the truck]. The noise only happens with the wheels rotating in the forward direction (no noise
when rotating the wheels backward).

(I was hoping to remove an access cover in hopes to view the area, but unlike the old Chevy I
used to work on in my "youth", there was no such luck.)

I've read a few threads on this forum, but they haven't zeroed in om this particular area or
have gone unexplained.

Any idea what this could be?

Thanks for your help

Pull the plate between the eng and trans. Have also seen
where the starter drive will touch the flywheel at times
creating a ticking noise-very rare though.

When I was under there, (I did remove that engine to trans "L"
bracket.) but the sheet metal "plate" looked like it was pretty well
sandwiched between with the eng to trans mounting bolts ....it didn't
look easily removable.

You have to remove the starter bolts and "L" brackets.
