I have a 2007 frontier  and just recently started getting this burning smell coming from the heating vent to a point that I need to get out of the car sometimes. After that my heating fan only works on high. I turn it on to max ac and the ac and recir light keep flashing with the compressor cutting in and out every time.

I also started getting a whining noise which seems to be coming from the front. Cant really hear it at idle but gets louder when under accelleration..

Thanks

Dennis

Sounds like you need a blower resister for the blower
motor. The whining sound is most likely the secondary
timing chain tensioner shoes are worn which causes the
tensioner plunger to contact the chain(metal to metal).
There is a NTB for the tensioner shoes concern which is
covered under your power train 5/60 warranty.

had it to the dealer today, they said it wasnt the same whine as the timing chain tsb and ddint know what it was. Resistor for the blower was the other problem, they said it was melted and thats what I smellled burning..  $300 later my truck is better..   Seems like this is a pretty common problem, should this be covered???

The blower resister is $56 and it pays .3 hr to install,
(that's 18 minutes) how do they charge $300 for that???????
I would take it to another dealer if possible to verify the
whine, some dealers just don't want to do them because
warranty only pays 4.6 hrs for the repair and it is a very
involved operation. The other source of a whine or air type
noise is from the right side valve cover and PCV valve
assy. The resister is covered for 3yrs/36K miles.

Well I havent had a chance to get the truck back to the dealer until today. In the mean time the whine has been getting worse. Very noticable upon a cold start and under Dealer says it is the timing chain issue and will be in there for 2 days. I drop it off tuesday. Thanks for the input..
