So ever since I purchased my '99 fronty the tailgate hasn't worked. I have just worked around it and focused on other aspects of my truck that have needed work.
Finally I look into buying a new latch, but first open the back of my tailgate up to see how easy it will be to replace. To my dismay the rods and back of the latch are missing. Only the external handle is there.
No matter how hard i try i cannot find the entire assembly for sale. Any suggestions? Other than never take a care salesmans' word for it.

How hard is it to replace. My handle is broken. Only problem I've had with my 03 crewcab.
